Aston Martin reveal IMMEDIATE lineup change in team shakeup
Aston Martin Formula 1 is set to undergo a significant management shakeup for the 2025 season, with a change in leadership that will see Mike Krack stepping down from his role as team principal. Krack, who had held the position since 2022, will transition to a new role as Chief Trackside Officer. This restructuring comes after a disappointing 2024 season, during which the team finished fifth in the constructors’ championship. Despite an ambitious vision to become a championship contender, Aston Martin lagged far behind fourth-place Mercedes, finishing 374 points behind, and failed to secure a single podium throughout the year.
The team’s poor performance has led to changes at the top, with Andy Cowell, the group CEO, being promoted to take on the roles of both Team Principal and CEO. Cowell will now oversee the team’s operations, including both the trackside and technical departments, as Aston Martin looks to restructure its management for better results. In particular, the team has chosen to reorganize its aerodynamics, engineering, and performance departments into two separate units. One will be based trackside, while the other will operate out of the AMR Technology Campus, with Krack overseeing the trackside operations in his new role.
Aston Martin’s shift in strategy is part of a broader effort to improve its competitiveness within Formula 1. The team has long held ambitions of challenging for championships, especially with the anticipation of new regulations set to arrive in 2026. The highly regarded Adrian Newey, known for his work as a legendary designer in the sport, is expected to contribute significantly to the team’s long-term goals, boosting their chances of becoming more competitive when the new technical rules are implemented.
Despite the setback in 2024, Aston Martin’s driver lineup remains strong, with two-time world champion Fernando Alonso at the wheel. Alonso had an impressive season in 2023, securing eight podium finishes and finishing fourth in the drivers’ standings, showcasing his exceptional skill and experience. His presence provides the team with a wealth of expertise as they work to improve their performance.
While the team’s restructuring represents a major shift in their approach to F1, the changes are being made with the hope of revitalizing Aston Martin’s competitiveness and positioning them as serious contenders for the future. The new structure and leadership changes reflect the team’s determination to bounce back from a difficult season and work towards achieving their ambitious goals in the coming years.
