Leclerc Admits to ‘Extreme’ Setup Changes as Ferrari Fights to Rescue Season
Charles Leclerc has revealed that Ferrari has made “extreme” changes to the SF-25’s setup in a bid to address its poor form and revive a faltering 2025 Formula 1 campaign.
The Maranello-based team has endured a frustrating start to the season, currently sitting fourth in the Constructors’ Championship and trailing McLaren by a staggering 152 points after just six races. Despite high hopes at the start of the year, Ferrari has struggled with balance, tyre wear, and overall pace—issues that have left both Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton battling in the midfield.
Hamilton is still chasing his first grand prix podium for Ferrari, though he has managed a sprint win and a podium in the sprint format. Leclerc’s only highlight so far has been a third-place finish in Saudi Arabia.
Speaking to media in Miami, Leclerc shed light on the drastic steps Ferrari is taking to get back on track both in terms of car setup and his personal driving approach.
“This year we’ve taken some very extreme directions with the setup to try to unlock more performance from the car,” Leclerc said. “That has meant changing a lot in my driving style to adapt to what this car needs.”
He acknowledged that after seven years with Ferrari, some habits have become second nature, which makes adjusting even more challenging.
“There are probably things I do naturally now that I don’t even realise. Even though I feel like I’m driving very differently this year, this car demands a completely different approach.”
With the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola Ferrari’s home race—on the horizon, expectations are high. The team is under pressure to deliver a breakthrough performance, and Leclerc’s comments underline just how far Ferrari is pushing to find answers and recover lost ground.
