F1 boss delivers shock SACK warning to drivers
The Formula 1 grid for the 2025 season is finalized, with notable moves and stark warnings issued to drivers about their performance expectations.
Red Bull has promoted Liam Lawson to their senior team to replace Sergio Perez, while Isack Hadjar takes Lawson’s seat in the junior VCARB team.
However, these changes have also marked the end of Franco Colapinto’s F1 career, as the Argentine driver failed to secure a seat for 2024.
Colapinto, once a contender for Red Bull, ultimately lost out on the opportunity despite interest from team principal Christian Horner.
His exit clears the way for Carlos Sainz to join Williams in 2025, replacing Colapinto in the lineup.
Despite leaving F1, Colapinto’s talents have not gone unnoticed, with Alpine reportedly still keeping an eye on him.
The French team, led by Flavio Briatore, will begin the season with Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan but has warned that changes could be made if results fall short.
Briatore has expressed his admiration for Colapinto’s abilities and hinted that no driver’s position is truly secure.
Speaking to Auto Motor und Sport, Briatore emphasized the importance of performance: “I am interested in any driver who is fast. Colapinto surprised everyone. The only thing that is certain is death.”
While affirming that Gasly and Doohan would start the 2025 season, he also made it clear that underperformance would not be tolerated.
Briatore highlighted the immense effort and resources behind every driver, stressing that the responsibility to deliver results rests heavily on them. He stated,
“The driver is the one who must finish the work of the almost thousand people behind him. If there is a driver who does not progress or deliver results, I will replace him.”
These comments reflect the high-stakes environment of F1, where drivers face constant pressure to perform.
For Colapinto, hope remains that he might return to the grid if opportunities arise, especially with Briatore’s openness to changes mid-season.
Meanwhile, all eyes are on the 2025 lineup as teams and drivers prepare for a fiercely competitive season ahead.
