BREAKING F1 NEWS:Ex- F1 Team Boss and Pundit Eddie Jordan Dies at 76 After…read more
Eddie Jordan, former Formula 1 team owner and well-known television pundit, has died at the age of 76. The Irishman publicly disclosed in December 2024 that he had been diagnosed with bladder and prostate cancer earlier in the year, which had spread to his spine and pelvis. Despite undergoing chemotherapy in Cape Town, South Africa, and remaining optimistic about his condition, Jordan sadly passed away in the early hours of Thursday, March 20, 2025.
His family released a statement confirming his passing: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit, and entrepreneur. He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of March 20, 2025.”
Jordan was a charismatic figure in motorsport, having founded and led the Jordan Grand Prix team from 1991 to 2005. His team was instrumental in launching the careers of several F1 stars, most notably giving seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher his debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. By the late 1990s, Jordan Grand Prix was competing at the front, securing its first victory at the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix with Damon Hill. However, financial struggles led to the team’s sale in 2005 to Russian-Canadian businessman Alex Shnaider, rebranding as MF1 Toyota for 2006.
After several ownership changes, the team evolved into Force India in 2008 before being liquidated in 2018. Its assets were sold to Racing Point, which now competes as Aston Martin and continues to operate from Jordan Grand Prix’s original Silverstone base.
Following his team’s sale, Jordan transitioned into broadcasting, becoming a popular F1 pundit. He joined the BBC’s coverage in 2009, breaking some of the sport’s biggest stories before moving to Channel 4 in 2016 as their lead analyst. His larger-than-life personality and deep racing knowledge made him a beloved figure in the sport.
