F1 stars and MORE congratulate Verstappen on first child

Kelly Piquet, Brazilian model and daughter of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet, has announced she is expecting her first child with four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen.

The couple, who began dating in 2020 but went public in 2021, shared the news on social media just ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend.

The announcement followed a media day where Verstappen faced criticism from Mercedes driver George Russell, who described him as a “bully.”

The Instagram post, which has now garnered over two million likes, was met with an outpouring of congratulatory messages from fans and members of the F1 community.

Piquet later shared the post on her Instagram story, expressing her gratitude for the warm wishes.

She also acknowledged that pregnancy announcements can be emotionally difficult for those struggling with infertility or longing for a child.

“Cannot express how happy we are,” she wrote. “Thank you for all of the sweet warm messages. If this news is painful for you, I’m sending all my love and deepest hugs your way.”

Several notable figures in Formula 1 added their congratulations in the comments section.

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso wrote, “Congratulations!!,” while drivers Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, and Oscar Piastri also left supportive messages.

Red Bull team mechanic Calum Nicholas shared his excitement, commenting, “So happy for you both ❤️❤️❤️.”

Amanda Newey, wife of renowned Red Bull engineer Adrian Newey, highlighted the couple’s strong racing heritage, noting the potential for their child to inherit exceptional racing talent.“Congratulations! 🎉 What an incredible gene pool of racing talent! ❤️😍” she wrote.

The announcement comes at a time when Verstappen remains a dominant figure in Formula 1, having clinched his fourth consecutive championship earlier this year.

Fans and colleagues alike celebrated this personal milestone for the Dutch driver and his partner, underscoring the global F1 community’s camaraderie.

As Verstappen prepares for the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, the couple’s announcement adds a heartwarming moment to an otherwise intense season.

Both Verstappen and Piquet have expressed their joy, emphasizing the significance of their shared journey into parenthood.
