BREAKING: FIA Summon Piastri’s McLaren at Chinese GP for…read more
The FIA has summoned Oscar Piastri’s McLaren for inspection ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, alongside the Alpine of Jack Doohan and the Williams of Alex Albon. This is part of the standard pre-race display procedure mandated by Formula 1’s governing body.
McLaren entered the 2025 season in strong form, with Lando Norris securing victory in the opening race as the team looks to defend its first Constructors’ Championship since 1998. However, Piastri endured a difficult race, finishing ninth after sliding off the track in wet conditions. Prior to the incident, both McLaren drivers had built a commanding 16-second lead over Max Verstappen in third place. However, shifting weather conditions and the deployment of safety cars ultimately neutralized their advantage.
With the second round of the season set to take place in Shanghai, Piastri will be aiming for a stronger result. However, before competitive action begins, his MCL39 has been selected by the FIA for routine inspection. According to an official document, Piastri’s car, along with those of Doohan and Albon, will be used in car display presentations.
The selection falls under Article 19 of the F1 Sporting Regulations, which dictates that certain cars must be made available for FIA inspection during race weekends. This procedure is standard across all events and requires the designated teams to position their cars in the pit lane for scrutiny.
Once the inspection is completed, Piastri will shift his focus to track action at the Shanghai International Circuit. With this being a sprint weekend, teams and drivers will have only a single one-hour practice session before competitive sessions commence. This limited track time places additional pressure on teams to optimize their setups efficiently.
McLaren will be eager to maintain their strong early-season form, and Piastri will look to deliver a performance that better reflects the team’s potential. With the sprint format compressing the race weekend schedule, every session will be crucial in determining his chances of a stronger result in China.
