BREAKING : F1 team announce major change for Japanese Grand Prix weekend… Read more

Haas has unveiled a striking one-off livery for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix, embracing the country’s rich culture and traditions. The American-owned team, which has had a solid start to the 2024 Formula 1 season, took to social media to announce the special design.
Following two races, Haas currently sits sixth in the constructors’ standings, with Esteban Ocon’s impressive fifth-place finish in Shanghai playing a crucial role in their points tally. As several teams hinted at unique liveries for the Suzuka weekend, Haas became the first to officially reveal theirs—a design incorporating Japan’s iconic cherry blossoms.
Ocon and his teammate, Ollie Bearman, will race with sakura-inspired artwork on the side of their VF-24 cars and front wings. This design pays tribute to the traditional Japanese cherry blossom season, a symbol of beauty and renewal. The aesthetic change is expected to be a hit among fans, given Japan’s deep appreciation for Formula 1 and the vibrant visual appeal of the new look.
Interestingly, the word ‘sakura’ in Japanese is associated not only with cherry blossoms but also with raw horse meat sushi, called basashi, which has a pink hue similar to the flowers. However, given Haas’ recent upturn in form—especially after securing 14 points in Shanghai—it’s clear that the team is focusing on the more elegant interpretation of sakura, rather than any unintended culinary references.
Ocon expressed his excitement ahead of the Suzuka weekend, highlighting his fondness for Japan and its dedicated F1 fanbase. “I’m thrilled to be back in Japan and race at Suzuka. The fans here are fantastic—so passionate and knowledgeable about the sport,” Ocon said. “Every year, I see some incredible outfits in the crowd, and the support we receive is always heartwarming. It’s a unique atmosphere.”
Discussing the Suzuka circuit itself, the French driver praised its challenging nature. “For me, Suzuka is the best track on the calendar. The first sector, in particular, is amazing—fast, flowing, and incredibly demanding. You need to be both committed and precise, especially in qualifying, and when you nail a lap here, it’s one of the most rewarding experiences in racing.”
In an official statement, the Haas team explained the significance behind their special livery. “To celebrate the official start of cherry blossom season in Japan, MoneyGram Haas F1 Team is paying homage to the sakura with a bespoke livery for the Japanese Grand Prix,” the team stated.
This announcement adds an extra layer of excitement to the race weekend, with Haas aiming to continue their strong early-season form. As Suzuka prepares to host another thrilling event, fans will be eager to see how the newly adorned Haas cars perform on one of Formula 1’s most beloved circuits.
