F1 world champion advises Lando Norris to work with mental coach to aid title bid
2016 Formula 1 World Champion Nicofia Rosberg has advised Lando Norris to work with a mental coach to strengthen his 2025 title bid. Rosberg, who famously collaborated with a sports psychologist during his own championship-winning season, believes that mental coaching could help Norris improve his performance under pressure. This advice comes as Norris trails his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri by 10 points in the championship standings.
In the recent Spanish Grand Prix qualifying session, Norris was leading until the final run, where he made several small mistakes that cost him pole position. Rosberg commented on this, stating:
> “Everything had gone perfectly. He was first until the last run, and it was just every corner a little mistake, every corner overdoing it, every corner running wide on the exit, getting a snap on the exit through the whole lap. I mean, wow! So what does he have to do? From my point of view, he needs to work on the mental side.”
Rosberg emphasized the importance of mental training, noting that during his championship year, he spent significant time with a psychologist, which he found to be more challenging than physical training but extremely valuable.
This isn’t the first time a former F1 driver has suggested mental coaching for Norris. In July 2024, Ralf Schumacher also recommended that Norris consider working with a mental coach to build confidence and manage stress, especially after a mistake at the Belgian Grand Prix that affected his performance.
As the season progresses, with the Canadian Grand Prix approaching, Norris remains a strong contender for the title. However, addressing the mental aspects of his performance could be crucial in his pursuit of the championship.
