Ferrari is gearing up for a major title push in 2025 after narrowly missing out on the Constructors’ Championship to McLaren by just 14 points.

With Lewis Hamilton joining Charles Leclerc, the team aims to claim both world titles in the final season of the ground-effect car era before Formula 1 transitions to revolutionary new regulations in 2026.

Team principal Frederic Vasseur has emphasized that the new Ferrari, the 677, will be a complete departure from the SF-24, which delivered five wins in 2024.

“We are working on an entirely new concept,” Vasseur explained, noting the importance of addressing consistency.

“In a season with four teams competing for wins, the smallest details make the difference.”

Ferrari’s decision to overhaul the car is notable, as many expected 2025 cars to simply be refined versions of their 2024 predecessors, given that teams are already focused on preparing for the 2026 regulations.

However, Ferrari isn’t alone in its ambitious redesign.

McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes have also opted to take bold approaches, signaling an intense battle ahead.

McLaren, fresh off their Constructors’ title win, is equally committed to innovation.

Team principal Andrea Stella revealed at Autosprint’s Helmet Awards that their 2025 car will incorporate significant risks to maintain their competitive edge.

“We want to fight for the drivers’ title and make a clear leap forward,” Stella said, adding that while McLaren hopes to dominate, the fight among four top teams is likely to remain thrilling.

Red Bull faces a pivotal season as well, with the RB21 set to debut as the first car in nearly two decades without input from design legend Adrian Newey, who has moved to Aston Martin.

Under the leadership of Pierre Waché and Enrico Balbo, Red Bull aims to address the shortcomings of the RB20, which lost its technical advantage late in 2024.

Max Verstappen managed two wins in the final four races, but the four-time champion made it clear that a fresh car concept was essential to resolve their issues fully.

Despite Newey’s departure, Red Bull’s aerodynamic team is confident in delivering a competitive package with a more streamlined cooling system and innovations aimed at maximizing Verstappen’s title prospects.

Christian Horner, their team principal, is determined to prove that Red Bull can maintain its dominance amidst mounting competition and internal challenges.

Mercedes, meanwhile, is banking on structural changes to reverse its fortunes.

After a disappointing campaign with the W15, which performed inconsistently, the team has brought in Simone Resta to collaborate with technical director James Allison.

Originally tasked with focusing on the 2026 car, Resta has shifted his attention to revamping the 2025 model, which is expected to feature a new design philosophy.

The team is also adjusting to Loic Serra’s departure to Ferrari, further intensifying the competition between the two rival outfits.

Ferrari president John Elkann has publicly expressed confidence in the team’s ability to improve on their 2024 performance.

Ferrari’s new car will feature a redesigned chassis, pull-rod front suspension, and a shorter gearbox that facilitates a pull-rod rear suspension, aimed at improving traction and qualifying pace.

This approach mirrors McLaren’s strategy, highlighting how both teams are prioritizing innovation over conservatism.

Stella’s remarks at the awards ceremony encapsulated McLaren’s ambitions to establish dominance, but Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes are equally determined to challenge for supremacy.

The technical stakes are higher than ever as teams push the limits of what’s possible in the final year of ground-effect cars.

With all four teams pursuing aggressive strategies and innovative designs, the 2025 season promises to be another thrilling contest.
