BREAKING: Ferrari Boss Fred Vasseur Delivers Blunt Response to Questions on Lewis Hamilton’s…read more

Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has strongly defended Lewis Hamilton in the face of criticism over the British driver’s underwhelming start to the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Hamilton has struggled to find his footing since joining Ferrari, finishing seventh at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix—matching his qualifying spot and ending the race over half a minute behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who claimed Ferrari’s first podium of the season. Outside of his standout sprint victory in China, Hamilton’s performances have raised eyebrows.

When asked whether Hamilton’s form had declined significantly, Vasseur responded with frustration.

“We’ve only had five races. I know people want dramatic headlines, but that’s complete nonsense,” Vasseur said. “This is motorsport—you have good days and bad. When we’re doing well, it doesn’t mean we’ve won everything, and when we’re struggling, it doesn’t mean we’re lost.”

Vasseur called for perspective and pointed out that other top drivers, including Max Verstappen, have had inconsistent results.

“Look at Max he dominated in Japan, was far off in Bahrain, and then nearly won in Saudi. The margins are tiny, and competition is fierce. We just need to keep improving step by step,” he added.

Despite Hamilton sitting seventh in the standings and trailing championship leader Oscar Piastri by 68 points, Vasseur maintained full confidence in his new driver.

“I’m fully behind Lewis. We’ll regroup and find the right setup together,” he said. “The pace is there we just need to fine-tune the balance and get more out of the tyres.”

Hamilton Acknowledges Struggles, Braces for Challenging Year

Following another difficult race, Hamilton admitted his Saudi GP performance was “horrible” and suggested the rest of the season could be just as tough.

“There’s nothing good to take from today, except Charles being on the podium,” Hamilton said. “The car was a handful, and there’s no clear solution yet it’s likely to be a challenging year.”

Vasseur, however, remains confident that Hamilton and the team can overcome the early-season hurdles.

“We’re hitting a rough patch, but the performance is there,” Vasseur concluded. “Together, we’ll work through it and unlock the potential.”
