Ferrari confirm reshuffle as Lewis Hamilton set for new race engineer
Ferrari have confirmed a management reshuffle ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 season, with Riccardo Adami no longer serving as Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer.
The Italian engineer partnered Hamilton during the seven-time world champion’s first season with Ferrari in 2025. However, their working relationship attracted attention after several tense radio exchanges throughout the year, raising doubts over their on-track communication and overall collaboration.
With the new season approaching, Ferrari have opted to make a change, reassigning Adami to a different role within the organisation.
In an official announcement, the team stated:
“Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that Riccardo Adami has transitioned to a new position within the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy as Driver Academy and Test Previous Cars Manager. In this capacity, his extensive Formula 1 experience will support the development of young drivers and help strengthen the programme’s performance culture.
“Scuderia Ferrari HP thanks Riccardo for his dedication and contribution in his trackside role and wishes him success in his new position. The new race engineer for car #44 will be announced in due course.”
Adami’s Formula 1 journey
Adami began his F1 career in 2002 with Minardi, later becoming a race engineer and continuing with the team following its transition into Toro Rosso under Red Bull ownership. During that period, he worked with drivers including Daniel Ricciardo, Sebastien Buemi and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
In 2015, Adami joined Ferrari alongside Vettel, remaining as his race engineer until Vettel’s move to Aston Martin. From 2021, Adami served as Carlos Sainz’s race engineer, playing a key role in the Spaniard’s four race victories with the Scuderia.
Hamilton replaced Sainz for the 2025 season, with Adami initially confirmed as his race engineer during Hamilton’s first appearances in Maranello. However, the partnership lasted just one season.
Ferrari have confirmed that Hamilton’s new race engineer for the 2026 campaign will be revealed at a later date.
