Italian Fans Turn on Hamilton After Disappointing Spanish GP Showing

Lewis Hamilton is facing increasing criticism from Ferrari’s passionate fanbase following a frustrating performance at the Spanish Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion finished sixth, well behind teammate Charles Leclerc, who secured a podium. The performance gap has triggered disappointment among the Tifosi — Ferrari’s devoted supporters — many of whom have taken to social media to question whether Hamilton is the right man for the job.

Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari earlier this season came with huge fanfare, but that optimism is now being tested. After the race, Hamilton didn’t mince words, calling the weekend “terrible” and casting doubt on Ferrari’s ability to bounce back, stating bluntly, “I’m sure they won’t,” when asked if he believed improvements were coming. The remarks have only added fuel to the backlash, particularly in Italy, where Ferrari holds a deeply symbolic place in national pride.

The reaction has been swift and unforgiving. Some fans have already begun calling for Hamilton to be benched if his performance doesn’t improve. With no podium finishes so far and an increasing points gap to Leclerc in the drivers’ standings, critics argue Hamilton has yet to make a positive impact — and may even be a distraction rather than a driving force for success.

Still, Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur remains firmly behind his star signing. He acknowledged the team is working through technical issues and stressed that both drivers are integral to Ferrari’s long-term goals.

“This is about development and building consistency,” Vasseur said. “We’re not making knee-jerk decisions based on public pressure.”

Hamilton, meanwhile, appears unfazed by the criticism. While he admitted he’s aware of the negative reaction, he said it only motivates him to push harder.

“I use it as fuel,” he stated. “I’m here to help Ferrari return to the front, and that remains my focus.”

As the Formula 1 season nears its midpoint, the pressure is mounting. What began as a hopeful new chapter has quickly turned into a test of resilience — both for Hamilton and for Ferrari’s famously demanding supporters. If results don’t improve soon, the strain between the British driver and the Tifosi may only deepen.
