Ferrari have formally confirmed a key internal change ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 season, ending Riccardo Adami’s tenure as Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer after a single year working together.
The Scuderia announced that Adami has been reassigned to a new position within the team, bringing to a close a high-profile partnership that attracted attention throughout Hamilton’s first season in red in 2025. While Hamilton’s move to Ferrari was one of the most talked-about transfers in modern F1, his working relationship with Adami was frequently scrutinised, particularly following several tense radio exchanges during races that raised questions about their communication under pressure.
With Formula 1 set to enter a new technical era in 2026, Ferrari have opted to adjust their trackside structure as part of wider preparations for the regulation overhaul. Adami will remain within the organisation but will no longer serve as Hamilton’s voice on the pit wall during race weekends.
In an official statement, Ferrari confirmed Adami’s new role and expressed appreciation for his contribution.
“Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that Riccardo Adami has moved into a new position within the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy as Driver Academy and Test Previous Cars Manager,” the team said. “In this role, his extensive Formula 1 experience will support the development of young drivers and help strengthen the performance culture of the programme.
“Scuderia Ferrari HP thanks Riccardo for his dedication and commitment in his trackside role and wishes him every success in this new chapter. The race engineer for car #44 will be announced in due course.”
Ferrari’s decision highlights a careful and deliberate approach as they fine-tune Hamilton’s working environment ahead of 2026. While no successor has yet been named, the move signals the team’s determination to ensure strong alignment and communication as they aim to return to championship contention.
Adami’s reassignment brings an end to a partnership that carried significant expectations. When Hamilton replaced Carlos Sainz for the 2025 season, Adami was seen as a natural fit due to his deep knowledge of Ferrari’s systems and his experience working with elite drivers. However, as the season unfolded, it became clear that the collaboration faced challenges, particularly during high-stakes race scenarios.
Despite the change, Ferrari have been keen to stress that Adami remains a valued figure within the team. His move to the Driver Academy allows the Scuderia to retain his expertise while deploying it in a developmental role.
Adami’s F1 career spans more than 20 years, beginning with Minardi in 2002 before continuing through the team’s transformation into Toro Rosso. He later worked closely with drivers including Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz at Ferrari, contributing to multiple race victories along the way.
As Ferrari look ahead to 2026, attention now turns to who will become Hamilton’s new race engineer — a decision that could prove crucial as the Scuderia chase success in Formula 1’s next era.
