FIA Scrutinizes Verstappen’s Red Bull Ahead of Miami GP After Jeddah Controversy

Formula 1’s governing body has subjected Max Verstappen’s championship-leading Red Bull to intensified technical checks ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, following a contentious Saudi Arabian Grand Prix that saw the Dutch driver penalized.

The triple world champion arrives at the Hard Rock Stadium circuit under increased scrutiny after his late-race penalty in Jeddah handed victory to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. The incident, which involved wheel-to-wheel contact on the opening lap, resulted in a five-second time penalty that ultimately cost Verstappen the race win.

Post-Jeddah Technical Examination

As part of routine post-race procedures, the FIA selected Verstappen’s RB21 for a detailed technical inspection. Officials conducted thorough checks on:
– Engine air intake and cooling systems
– Lubrication and coolant flow components
– Sensor calibrations and ECU connections

The governing body confirmed full compliance with current technical regulations, with no irregularities detected in Red Bull’s machinery.

Growing Tensions Between Verstappen and FIA
The Jeddah penalty has further strained relations between the reigning champion and motorsport’s governing body. Verstappen was seen in an animated discussion with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem post-race, while conspicuously avoiding questions about the penalty in media sessions.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has joined his star driver in criticizing the stewards’ decision, calling the penalty “harsh” and questioning the consistency of race officiating.

With McLaren establishing themselves as genuine title threats in 2025, Verstappen can ill afford further points losses to penalties or technical infractions. The Miami Grand Prix presents a crucial opportunity for the Dutchman to reassert his dominance—but only if he can keep both his car and his temper in check.

The Miami International Autodrome hosts Round 4 of the 2025 championship this Sunday, where all eyes will be on car number 1 as Verstappen seeks to turn the page on his Saudi disappointment.
