FIA Conducts Post-Race Inspection on Verstappen’s Red Bull Ahead of Miami Grand Prix
As Formula 1 heads to Miami, Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing remain under scrutiny following recent developments off the track. The FIA has confirmed that Verstappen’s RB21 car underwent an extensive post-race inspection after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, further intensifying the spotlight on the reigning world champion during a season that has already seen its fair share of drama.
Despite his dominant reputation as a three-time world champion, Verstappen’s 2025 campaign has been far from smooth. At the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the Dutch driver finished second behind McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who claimed his first victory of the season. Verstappen’s performance was marred by a controversial five-second time penalty, handed down for a first-lap incident involving Piastri. The ruling was met with disapproval from both Verstappen and Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, who voiced concerns over the consistency of such decisions.
Following the race, Verstappen’s car was randomly selected as one of the top 10 finishers for deeper post-race scrutineering — a routine process conducted by the FIA to ensure all cars comply with the sport’s strict technical standards. The inspection was not triggered by any specific suspicion or protest but was part of the governing body’s standard procedures.
According to FIA documentation released in advance of the Miami Grand Prix, Verstappen’s RB21 underwent a thorough examination. Inspectors evaluated several key performance-related systems including the engine air intake, oil and coolant circuits, charge air cooling systems, and connected sensors. The review also involved inspection of the loom routing and electrical connections, including those tied to the Standard Electronic Control Unit (SECU), which plays a vital role in managing the car’s systems.
After the inspection, the FIA issued an official statement confirming that all of the components reviewed were fully compliant with the 2025 Formula 1 technical regulations. No irregularities were found, and Red Bull was given a clean bill of technical health following the Jeddah event.
However, the controversy surrounding Verstappen’s time penalty continues to overshadow the team’s recent performances. Verstappen reportedly declined to discuss the incident in post-race interviews and was spotted in a heated exchange with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem shortly after the race — a sign of the growing frustration within the Red Bull camp.
Team principal Christian Horner echoed the dissatisfaction, emphasizing that the five-second penalty cost Verstappen the win in what has become a closely contested championship. With McLaren surging ahead thanks to Piastri’s win, the pressure is mounting on Red Bull to respond.
As the championship arrives in Miami, Verstappen and his team will be looking to reset. The Miami International Autodrome, known for its combination of high-speed straights and technical sections, could favor Red Bull’s car — especially with new upgrades expected to be introduced. But with the championship stakes rising and rivals like McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes closing the gap, Red Bull cannot afford any further missteps.
The FIA’s decision to publicly release the inspection findings is seen as a move toward greater transparency, reinforcing its dedication to fair play. For Verstappen and Red Bull, the goal in Miami will be to steer clear of controversy and return to winning form — with the eyes of the F1 world firmly upon them.
