FIA Disqualifies Max Verstappen for Technical Breach After Post-Race Inspection

In a dramatic post-race development, Max Verstappen has been disqualified from the official results of the latest Formula 1 Grand Prix following a breach of the FIA’s technical regulations. Initially finishing in a podium position, the Red Bull Racing driver was found to have violated Article 3.5.9(e) of the FIA Technical Regulations during a post-race inspection. This rule concerns the wear of the car’s skid block, or “plank,” located underneath the vehicle.

The plank serves an essential function in regulating how low a car runs to the ground. Excessive wear indicates that the car may have been running too low, potentially offering aerodynamic advantages by increasing downforce. Such setups, however, breach the minimum ride height standards meant to ensure both safety and competitive fairness. The FIA inspection revealed that Verstappen’s plank had worn beyond the permitted limit, leading to an automatic disqualification from the race classification.

This ruling has major consequences for both Verstappen and Red Bull Racing. It strips the reigning world champion of valuable points and reshuffles the race results, giving an advantage to the drivers behind him. The updated standings have yet to be confirmed, but the disqualification could impact both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships, especially in a season where every point is fiercely contested.

Red Bull Racing responded quickly, stating their disappointment with the FIA’s findings but acknowledging the integrity of the process. “We are disappointed with the outcome of the inspection,” the team’s statement said. “However, we respect the FIA’s procedure and are currently reviewing our data to determine our next steps.” Under FIA rules, teams have up to 96 hours to appeal such decisions, and it remains uncertain whether Red Bull will take further action.

The verdict has stirred strong reactions across the paddock, with fans, analysts, and team members offering mixed views. Some argue the penalty was warranted to uphold the rules, while others believe it was overly harsh given Verstappen’s dominant form this season.

While this disqualification is a rare blemish in Verstappen’s otherwise stellar year, it likely won’t derail his championship momentum. Still, it offers a rare opportunity for rival teams to close the gap and adds fresh intrigue as the season continues. How Red Bull responds—and whether this sets a precedent for stricter enforcement—will be closely watched in the races to come.
