FIA Confirms Further Punishment as Max Verstappen Owns U…read more

The FIA has confirmed that Max Verstappen will face further punishment following his admission of responsibility in the controversial clash during the Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

In an official statement released earlier today, the FIA revealed that the Red Bull Racing driver has accepted full responsibility for the on-track incident involving Mercedes’ George Russell during the closing stages of the race. The high-speed collision, which forced Russell into the gravel and compromised both drivers’ final positions, sparked immediate scrutiny and post-race investigation.

“Following a full review of the incident and the driver’s acknowledgment of responsibility, the stewards have decided to impose additional sporting penalties on car No. 1,” the FIA’s statement read.

The penalties include a three-place grid drop for the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix and two penalty points added to Verstappen’s super licence. The decision comes after the stewards concluded that Verstappen’s aggressive maneuvering violated Article 2(b) of the FIA International Sporting Code relating to avoidable contact.

Speaking to media after the ruling, Verstappen admitted fault:

“I misjudged the space and timing in that moment. It wasn’t intentional, but it was on me. I’ve spoken with George and we’ve moved past it.”

Red Bull Racing has acknowledged the incident and confirmed they will not contest the FIA’s ruling. Team Principal Christian Horner stated, “We support Max’s accountability and respect the FIA’s decision. While it’s disappointing, we’ll shift focus to Austria and come back stronger.”

This development marks a rare moment of public admission from the reigning world champion and injects new tension into the championship battle as the season intensifies.

Further details and reactions to follow.
