BREAKING: FIA Confirms Lap Time Deletions for McLaren and Red Bull After…read more

The FIA has released its post-race report for the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix, confirming that multiple drivers  including McLaren’s Lando Norris and Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda  had lap times deleted for exceeding track limits, primarily at the Turn 17 chicane.

Lando Norris, who finished second behind Max Verstappen, was pushing hard to close the gap to the Red Bull driver throughout the race. On the final lap, his aggressive approach saw him lock up into the final chicane, forcing him to run off track. As a result, the FIA nullified his lap for not staying within the track boundaries. Despite the deleted time, Norris held onto P2 and remains atop the championship standings.

Yuki Tsunoda, making his debut with Red Bull in front of his home crowd, also had a lap deleted after running wide at the same corner during the race. Tsunoda qualified 15th but started 14th due to a penalty for Carlos Sainz and managed to climb to 12th by the chequered flag a solid effort, even if it wasn’t enough to score points. It was, however, the best finish for any Red Bull driver other than Verstappen since Sergio Perez’s P10 in Las Vegas last season.

Several other drivers also fell victim to Turn 17 during the race, including Kimi Antonelli, George Russell, Carlos Sainz, and Pierre Gasly, all of whom had lap times erased for leaving the track.

The Suzuka chicane once again proved a difficult test for the grid, and with the 2025 title fight heating up, every corner  and every inch of asphalt  is becoming increasingly crucial.
