FIA Confirms Disqualifications at 2025 Monaco Grand Prix Following Technical Breaches

The FIA has officially confirmed a series of disqualification penalties issued during the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, with the Haas F1 Team bearing the brunt of the sanctions. Both Nico Hülkenberg and Kevin Magnussen were disqualified from qualifying after their cars failed to pass post-session technical inspections.

The infraction involved a breach of Article 3.10.10 h) of the FIA Technical Regulations, which limits the Drag Reduction System (DRS) rear wing opening to a maximum of 85mm. Haas had debuted a new rear wing for the Monaco event but failed to correctly set the DRS flap gap. The team later acknowledged that an oversight occurred due to insufficient training of mechanics in handling the new setup.

Although Haas maintained that the misconfiguration did not provide a competitive advantage, the FIA emphasized the need for strict compliance with technical rules. As a result, both drivers were forced to start the race from the pit lane.

In a separate development, the FIA introduced a new regulation at Monaco mandating a minimum of two pit stops and the use of at least three different tyre compounds during the race. Intended to shake up race strategy and encourage overtaking, the rule was met with criticism from several drivers, who labeled it confusing and largely ineffective. Teams that failed to adhere to the rule faced potential disqualification.

Despite these regulatory changes, the race result remained mostly unchanged from the starting grid. Lando Norris dominated the event from pole position to take a decisive win. Charles Leclerc finished second on home soil, while Oscar Piastri rounded out the podium. The outcome highlighted the ongoing difficulty of producing overtaking opportunities at the tight and twisty Monaco circuit, even with revised rules in play.
