FIA Confirms Verstappen DISQUALIFICATION After…read more

In a dramatic turn of events, the FIA has officially disqualified Max Verstappen from the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix following a post-race investigation. The decision comes just hours after the Red Bull driver crossed the finish line first at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, seemingly securing another dominant victory.

Reason for Disqualification
According to an official FIA statement, Verstappen’s car failed a post-race technical inspection due to a breach of floor plank regulations, which resulted in excessive wear beyond the legal limit. This infraction, deemed a breach of Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations, led to his exclusion from the final classification.

Impact on Results
With Verstappen’s disqualification, Lando Norris has been promoted to race winner — his second career victory and a crucial boost in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. The revised podium now features:

  1. Lando Norris (McLaren)
  2. Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)
  3. George Russell (Mercedes)

The rest of the field has also been reshuffled accordingly, with Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, and Lewis Hamilton all moving up a position.

Red Bull Response
Red Bull Racing has issued a statement expressing “deep disappointment” and signaled their intention to review the findings before deciding whether to lodge an appeal. Team Principal Christian Horner commented, “It’s a frustrating outcome after what was an outstanding drive, but we respect the FIA process and will evaluate our next steps.”

Championship Implications
Verstappen’s disqualification has significant consequences in the title race. His lead in the Drivers’ Standings has been narrowed considerably, with Norris and Sainz closing in.

Updated Drivers’ Standings (Top 5):

  1. Max Verstappen – 161 pts
  2. Lando Norris – 148 pts
  3. Carlos Sainz – 137 pts
  4. Charles Leclerc – 126 pts
  5. George Russell – 118 pts

What’s Next
The 2025 Formula 1 season continues in two weeks at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. With momentum shifting and tensions rising, the championship battle is now wide open.
