FIA Confirms Verstappen DISQUALIFICATION After…read more
In a bombshell development, the FIA has officially disqualified Max Verstappen from the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix following a post-race technical inspection that revealed his Red Bull RB21 was not in compliance with the regulations.
The Dutch driver, who had initially claimed victory in Sunday’s race at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, saw his result wiped from the record books after stewards found that the floor plank on his car had excessive wear, violating Article 3.5.9 of the F1 Technical Regulations.
During routine post-race checks, Verstappen’s car failed to meet the minimum thickness required for the wooden plank installed beneath the car to regulate ride height and reduce ground effect advantages. The FIA deemed the wear to be significantly beyond the allowable limit, leading to an immediate disqualification.
“All teams are expected to meet the technical requirements without exception. The integrity of competition depends on strict adherence to these regulations. Red Bull Racing’s No. 1 car was found to be in breach, and the stewards have ruled accordingly.”
With Verstappen removed from the final standings, Lando Norris inherits the race win, followed by Carlos Sainz in second and George Russell in third. The championship standings have also tightened considerably.
Red Bull Racing expressed “shock and disappointment” at the ruling and hinted they may appeal the decision.
Team boss Christian Horner stated: “We are surprised by the outcome and are reviewing the data. There was no intention to breach the rules, and we will consider all our options.”
Verstappen loses all points from the race, cutting his championship lead and injecting fresh intensity into the 2025 title battle.
1. Lando Norris – 148 pts
2. Carlos Sainz – 137 pts
3. Max Verstappen – 136 pts (after disqualification)
The F1 circus heads to Canada next, where Verstappen may also face additional sanctions as the FIA continues its review into broader Red Bull compliance issues.
