Max Verstappen and Lando Norris were among four drivers penalized with deleted lap times following the conclusion of the Miami Grand Prix, as confirmed by the FIA’s official track limits report.
The sixth round of the 2025 Formula 1 season, held at the Miami International Autodrome, saw high-speed drama as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri stormed to victory, continuing his dominant run and extending his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. While reigning world champion Verstappen started from pole, he ultimately finished P4 after losing ground during an intense battle with Norris and both McLarens.
The FIA released its post-race track limits review on Sunday evening, detailing deleted lap times due to violations at Turns 6, 11, and 15. Stewards confirmed that Verstappen, Norris, Carlos Sainz, and rookie Gabriel Bortoleto all exceeded track limits during the race, resulting in the deletion of one lap time each.
Norris had his 1:34.855 lap invalidated for running wide at Turn 11, while Verstappen’s 1:34.857 was also deleted at the same corner. Sainz, driving for Williams, exceeded limits at Turn 15, and his lap was struck from the record. Sauber’s Bortoleto was found to have gone beyond the track boundary at Turn 6 before retiring later in the race due to a suspected engine failure.
Red Bull and McLaren as McLaren Dominates
Despite starting strong, Verstappen and Red Bull could not keep pace with the blistering speed of the McLarens. Piastri’s victory was backed up by a second-place finish from teammate Norris, securing a commanding 1–2 for the team in papaya. The Dutchman was forced to settle for fourth, behind George Russell in third.
The track limits violations did not alter finishing positions, but they highlighted the razor-thin margins drivers operate under and the FIA’s continued strict enforcement of racing boundaries.
The 2025 season continues to heat up, with McLaren emerging as a serious championship contender while Red Bull looks to regroup after a weekend of missed opportunities in Miami.
