FIA Issues Charles Leclerc Disqualification Verdict Ahead of Canadian Grand
The FIA has officially concluded its investigation into Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, following a series of technical checks after the Spanish Grand Prix, confirming that the Monegasque will face no penalties ahead of the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
As part of routine post-race procedures, the FIA randomly selected a top-10 finisher for thorough inspection — and Leclerc’s Ferrari was chosen in Barcelona. The inspections primarily focused on the rear brake system, with particular scrutiny placed on Article 11.1.2 of the technical regulations. This rule mandates that brake systems must apply symmetrical force on both sides of the car, prohibiting any mechanism that could intentionally create asymmetric braking torque.
Had the inspection revealed a breach of this regulation, Leclerc would have faced disqualification from his third-place finish in Spain. However, the FIA confirmed all components of Leclerc’s car were in full compliance with technical requirements.
This verdict comes as a relief to Ferrari, which earlier in the 2025 season faced a high-profile double disqualification at the Chinese Grand Prix. In that instance, Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton were penalized for separate infractions — Leclerc’s car was under the minimum weight by 1kg, and Hamilton’s plank exhibited excessive wear.
A disqualification in Spain would have cost Leclerc not only critical points but also a hard-earned podium. The 27-year-old has claimed three podium finishes so far this season and, along with Hamilton, has propelled Ferrari to second place in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of both Mercedes and Red Bull.
The FIA’s latest verdict allows Ferrari to maintain momentum as the team heads into the Canadian Grand Prix, where all eyes will again be on the Scuderia’s performance and continued title push.
