FIA Issues Statement Following Multiple Fatalities in Global Motorsport Events
The global motorsport community is grieving after a tragic Saturday that saw three lives lost in separate racing events, prompting an official statement from the FIA.
In the United Kingdom, driver Julian Grimwade tragically passed away following a crash at Donington Park during the Vintage Sports Car Club championship.
At the Jim Clark Rally in Scotland, co-driver Dai Roberts, aged 39, died in a crash that also left driver James Williams, 27, seriously injured. The remainder of the rally was subsequently cancelled out of respect and safety concerns.
In Denmark, during the Nykøbing Falster Motor Sport’s Anniversary Rally, a 69-year-old race official lost his life after being struck by a car that went out of control. Another official, aged 64, was also injured and remains hospitalized in serious condition. The deceased official’s identity has yet to be publicly released.
In response, the FIA released a statement on social media platform X:
“The FIA is saddened to learn of the tragic incidents today at the Jim Clark Rally in Scotland, Vintage Motorsport Festival at Donington Park and Nykøbing Falster Motor Sport’s Anniversary Rally in Denmark.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of those who have sadly lost their lives. Our thoughts are also with those injured in the accidents and we send our best wishes to them for their full and swift recovery.
The FIA offers its support to Motorsport UK and The Danish Automobile Sports Federation at this difficult time and stands alongside all those affected.
The tragic incidents today have united our global motor sport community as we reaffirm the FIA’s full support to our members, officials and competitors.”
