Former F1 Driver Enrique Bernoldi Appointed as Steward for Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

The FIA has confirmed that ex-Formula 1 driver Enrique Bernoldi will serve as a race steward for this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, marking round five of the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Bernoldi, who raced in F1 with the Arrows team in 2001 and 2002, was once backed by Red Bull and competed with the Red Bull Junior Team in Formula 3000 during 1999 and 2000. He also worked as a test driver for Sauber and Honda before moving on to other racing series, including IndyCar and the World Endurance Championship. He retired from active competition in 2015.

Now returning to the F1 scene in an official capacity, Bernoldi will join the stewarding team in Jeddah alongside Nish Shetty, Loic Bacquelaine, and Hasan Alabdali, as outlined in the FIA’s pre-race documentation.

FIA stewards play a key role during race weekends, acting as regulators who review incidents, enforce rules, and determine penalties for any infractions. While the race director stays consistent throughout the season, the panel of stewards changes from one Grand Prix to the next.

Bernoldi is no stranger to the role. He previously served as a steward at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where Lando Norris received a grid penalty for a red flag infraction. More recently, he was part of the stewarding panel at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, where Norris claimed victory.

With the high-speed nature and tight layout of the Jeddah circuit, Bernoldi’s racing experience and prior stewarding involvement are expected to be valuable assets in managing a potentially eventful race weekend.
