The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has officially confirmed eight significant changes to the Spanish Grand Prix, set to take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. These updates are aimed at improving safety, enhancing racing conditions, and optimizing the overall experience for teams, drivers, and fans.
One of the most notable changes is a revised track layout in sector three, designed to encourage more overtaking opportunities and reduce high-speed risks. The DRS zones have also been extended, allowing for greater chances of side-by-side racing on the main straight and into turn one.
Additionally, updates have been made to the pit lane entry and exit, improving visibility and reducing potential hazards during high-pressure pit stops. Several run-off areas around the circuit have been expanded, with new Tecpro barriers added in key corners to bolster driver safety.
The FIA has also implemented enhanced drainage systems following complaints about water accumulation during last year’s rain-affected sessions. This upgrade aims to ensure better performance under wet conditions. Furthermore, there will be new spectator zones, promising fans closer access to the action and upgraded facilities.
Tyre allocations for the weekend will also follow a revised format, as part of ongoing efforts to encourage more strategic variety during the race.
These changes mark a significant evolution of the Spanish Grand Prix, reflecting the FIA’s commitment to innovation and safety in Formula 1. Teams are already adjusting their strategies in anticipation of the revamped circuit.
