BREAKING: FIA Orders Inspection of Piastri and Norris’s Cars After Ve…read more
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has confirmed it conducted a full post-race inspection of McLaren’s cars following a standout showing at the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, where Oscar Piastri clinched his third win of the season and Lando Norris secured a strong fourth-place finish.
The inspection, which focused on key technical areas including the gearbox, floor, and aerodynamic components of the MCL38, was prompted by standard post-race procedures but carried added weight amid controversy surrounding Max Verstappen’s five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
After thorough examination, the FIA announced that both McLarens were fully compliant with the 2025 Formula 1 Technical Regulations, confirming the legality of Piastri and Norris’s performances in Jeddah.
Piastri’s victory was not only a testament to his driving prowess but also moved him to the top of the Drivers’ Championship standings with 99 points. The 23-year-old Australian maintained composure under pressure and expertly managed tire strategy, capitalizing on Verstappen’s penalty to secure the win.
“I’m proud of what we achieved today,” said Piastri. “The car felt great, and the team gave me everything I needed to get the job done.”
Norris, who remained a podium contender throughout the race, lauded the team’s progress: “It’s great to see both cars performing so well. We’re in a good place, and Oscar did an amazing job.”
Meanwhile, Red Bull’s Christian Horner contested the penalty handed to Verstappen, arguing it was unjustified. However, the FIA stood by its decision, indirectly paving the way for McLaren’s success.
McLaren’s recent technical updates, particularly improvements to the floor and rear suspension, have evidently closed the performance gap to rivals Red Bull and Ferrari. With both drivers delivering consistently strong results and the team passing scrutineering without issue, McLaren is rapidly emerging as a serious championship contender for the 2025 season.
As the F1 circus moves on to the next round, all eyes will be on the papaya squad to see if they can keep their title ambitions alive.
