FIA slam Norris with SHOCK Qatar GP penalty as F1 title battle takes huge swing

McLaren’s Lando Norris received a shock penalty from the FIA during the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, significantly impacting the Formula 1 constructors’ championship battle.

The 25-year-old was penalized for failing to slow under yellow-flag conditions, earning a severe 10-second stop/go penalty.

This forced Norris to rejoin the race at the back of the pack, derailing McLaren’s chances of securing the constructors’ title during the Qatar weekend.

The penalty came during an already chaotic race at the Lusail circuit, where McLaren had high expectations of solidifying their championship lead.

Norris, visibly frustrated, questioned the decision over team radio, saying, “For what?” Despite the setback, he managed to finish P10, earning a single point for the team.

However, his teammate Oscar Piastri delivered a strong performance, securing another podium for McLaren and showcasing the potential they had for the race.

Ferrari capitalized on McLaren’s misfortune, with Charles Leclerc finishing P2 and Carlos Sainz securing P6.

This reduced McLaren’s championship lead to just 21 points, keeping Ferrari firmly in the hunt for the constructors’ title.

The championship fight will now be decided at the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where both teams will give their all to claim the coveted title.

Norris’ penalty proved a critical blow to McLaren’s ambitions, as the team had hoped to seal the championship in Qatar.

The incident adds further intensity to what promises to be a thrilling finale to the season, with McLaren and Ferrari locked in a close battle for supremacy.
