FIA Summons Piastri’s McLaren Ahead of Chinese Grand Prix

The FIA has called Oscar Piastri’s McLaren for inspection ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, along with two other competitors. This is part of the standard car display procedure that takes place at every Formula 1 race weekend.

McLaren entered the 2025 season in strong form, with Lando Norris securing victory in the season opener. The team, now defending their first constructors’ championship title since 1998, showcased impressive pace. However, Piastri endured a more challenging race, finishing ninth after a mistake in wet conditions. Despite this, both McLaren drivers demonstrated the car’s potential, creating a 16-second gap to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen before changing weather conditions and safety car interventions reshuffled the order.

As the teams prepare for the second round of the season in Shanghai, Piastri aims to put his disappointing result behind him. Ahead of the race weekend, the FIA issued an official document confirming that Piastri’s MCL39, along with Jack Doohan’s Alpine and Alex Albon’s Williams, would be inspected as part of the routine car display process.

This procedure, mandated under Article 19 of the F1 sporting regulations, requires selected teams to present one of their cars in the designated pit stop position for FIA inspection. The routine check ensures compliance with regulations and is a common occurrence at every Grand Prix.

Once the inspection is complete, Piastri will shift his focus to track action at the Shanghai International Circuit. With this being a sprint weekend, teams will have limited preparation time, with just a single one-hour free practice session before competitive sessions begin. Piastri will be eager to maximize this session to fine-tune his setup ahead of qualifying and the sprint race.

With McLaren showing strong pace in the opening race, all eyes will be on whether they can continue their momentum and challenge for victory in China.
