Hamilton set for huge F1 title advantage after RADICAL Ferrari change

Lewis Hamilton is set to receive a significant boost in his pursuit of another Formula 1 title, thanks to a radical change at Ferrari, according to reports from Italian media. The seven-time world champion, who left Mercedes after a period of underperformance, has now officially joined the Maranello team. Hamilton is expected to make his debut at the Fiorano track later this month, with his first official race for Ferrari scheduled for the Australian Grand Prix in March.

Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes came after three challenging seasons with the team, during which they fell out of championship contention. In the last three years with Mercedes, Hamilton managed to secure just two race wins. This contrasted sharply with his earlier years, where he dominated the sport, securing 82 Grand Prix victories and six world titles in the nine seasons before that. His disappointing performance in 2024, where he struggled in qualifying against his teammate George Russell, has led to speculation about his future prospects at Ferrari. In particular, his qualifying performance, which saw him lose 19-5 to Russell over the course of the season, has raised doubts about his ability to compete for the championship in the future.

One of the main concerns about Hamilton’s prospects at Ferrari has been his ability to match the performance of his new teammate, Charles Leclerc. Leclerc is widely regarded as one of the best qualifiers on the F1 grid, and many observers have questioned whether Hamilton can keep pace with him. However, Hamilton’s chances of success have been given a boost by a radical technical change being implemented at Ferrari. According to reports from Italy, Ferrari’s technical team, led by head of performance Roberto Serra, has been focusing on a key aspect of the car’s suspension system, specifically the torsion bars and shock absorbers. These changes aim to optimize the car’s handling with the new Pirelli tyres, a crucial development for improving overall performance, especially in qualifying sessions.

By enhancing the car’s suspension and its ability to maximize tyre performance, Ferrari hopes to improve the car’s one-lap pace, which has traditionally been a weak point for them in recent seasons. This improvement could be crucial for Hamilton, who has often struggled in qualifying, especially in the early stages of races, which has led to early exits in Q1 and Q2. With these technical adjustments, Hamilton may be able to enjoy better qualifying results and avoid the issues that have plagued his recent seasons.

This strategic shift by Ferrari is seen as a crucial step in Hamilton’s quest for a possible eighth world title, providing him with the tools to challenge for victories and compete at the sharp end of the grid alongside Leclerc. While it remains to be seen how successful this change will be, it’s clear that Hamilton’s move to Ferrari comes with the potential for a significant boost to his championship hopes.
