Hamilton Fine-Tunes Ferrari Adaptations in Barcelona Test

Lewis Hamilton and his new Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc continued their preparations for the 2025 Formula 1 season with a two-day test in Barcelona. The sessions, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed their initial Fiorano outing last week. Ferrari used their 2023-spec car under F1’s Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) regulations, which restrict teams to 1000 km per year for their current race drivers.

Hamilton’s running on Wednesday was cut short due to a minor crash, but the team remained at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. On Thursday, reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi and Ferrari academy member Dino Beganovic took over the testing duties.

Getting Acquainted with Ferrari’s Systems

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Hamilton focused on learning Ferrari’s systems, including its starting procedures and clutch operation. Given that each team has unique ways of managing race starts, this aspect required special attention.

Another key area of adaptation for Hamilton was Ferrari’s braking system. Unlike Mercedes, which uses Carbon Industries brakes, Ferrari relies on Brembo brake discs. The seven-time world champion reportedly praised the system’s performance, stating that it suited his driving style well.

Adjustments for Comfort and Performance

Hamilton also requested modifications to the car’s pedals after his initial Fiorano test. According to La Gazzetta, he was satisfied with the changes made in Barcelona, and Ferrari now plans to implement these adjustments in their 2025 challenger.

What’s Next for Hamilton and Ferrari?

Ferrari will return to Barcelona on February 4-5 for a Pirelli tyre test, where both Hamilton and Leclerc will drive a modified ‘mule’ version of last season’s SF-24.

The Scuderia will then unveil their 2025 car, the SF-25, in Maranello on February 19, with both drivers expected to get brief laps at Fiorano before heading to Bahrain. Pre-season testing will take place in Bahrain from February 26-28, marking the first proper on-track action for the upcoming season.
