BREAKING: Health Update on Hamilton Released Following Barcelona Crash

A health update has been provided for Lewis Hamilton after his crash during testing in Barcelona.

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton walked away unharmed following a crash during Ferrari’s private test session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The British driver, who recently joined Ferrari for the 2025 season after 12 years with Mercedes, was testing the team’s 2023 car, the SF-23, under the Testing of Previous Car (TPC) regulations.

Ferrari had scheduled a three-day testing program at the Barcelona circuit, with Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc alternating driving duties. However, the team’s progress was interrupted when Hamilton lost control of the car and crashed into the barriers, causing damage to the suspension and bodywork. Fortunately, Hamilton emerged from the incident uninjured and was able to return to the pits. Sky Sports News later confirmed that the driver was “absolutely fine,” and Ferrari emphasized that such incidents are not unusual during private test sessions.

The crash temporarily halted Ferrari’s testing as the team worked to repair the SF-23. This setback delayed Leclerc’s scheduled time on track, though the test program is expected to continue once repairs are completed. Both Hamilton and Leclerc will resume their testing runs before the team hands over the car to reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi and academy driver Dino Beganovic for the final day of testing on January 30, 2025.

Under F1’s TPC regulations, teams are only permitted to test cars that are at least two years old, with a strict mileage cap of 1,000 kilometers. This type of testing allows drivers to familiarize themselves with the car’s handling, team procedures, and different setup configurations without breaching current-season restrictions. For Hamilton, who is adjusting to Ferrari’s engineering and car dynamics, these tests are crucial in preparing for the new season.

This crash marks Hamilton’s first significant incident since joining Ferrari. Though it occurred in a previous-generation car, the test session offered Hamilton a chance to further acclimate to Ferrari’s race operations, having previously completed laps in the SF-23 at Fiorano.

Hamilton’s official debut in Ferrari’s 2025 car, the SF-24, is scheduled for February 4 and 5 at the same circuit in Barcelona. These days will feature a Pirelli tyre test, where both Ferrari and McLaren will evaluate prototype tires for the 2026 season. Hamilton is expected to return to the track alongside Leclerc for those sessions, where they will begin fine-tuning the SF-24’s performance ahead of the upcoming F1 season.

Despite the incident, Ferrari remains confident that Hamilton’s crash will not have a long-term impact on their preparations for the 2025 season. The team is focused on gathering valuable data during these sessions, particularly on car setup and driver feedback, as they aim to be competitive from the first race.

Hamilton and Leclerc will also participate in pre-season testing in Bahrain, where they will have further opportunities to push the SF-24 to its limits before the season opener in March. This will be a crucial period for Ferrari, as the team looks to address any remaining issues with car performance and ensure that both drivers feel comfortable heading into the new season.

For now, Ferrari fans can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that Hamilton escaped the crash without injury and is ready to continue his preparation for the challenges ahead. His highly anticipated debut with the team remains on track, and with more testing on the horizon, Ferrari is focused on delivering a car capable of challenging for wins in 2025.
