Health status confirmed for Jos Verstappen after rally accident

Jos Verstappen, former Formula 1 driver and father of reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen, experienced a dramatic rollover during the Rally of Scandinavia, part of the 2025 European Rally Championship. The incident occurred on Friday, May 30, during Special Stage 8, when his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 flipped after the rear wheels dipped into loose gravel. Despite the severity of the crash, both Verstappen and his co-driver, Renaud Jamoul, emerged uninjured.

Prior to the crash, Verstappen had been navigating the challenging Scandinavian gravel stages, which he described as demanding due to limited grip and fast-paced sections. He noted the learning experience the rally provided, emphasizing the need for confidence on such terrains.

Despite the setback, Verstappen and Jamoul are expected to return for the final day of the rally on Saturday, May 31, with eight stages remaining. Currently, Verstappen stands 12th in the ERC standings.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen is competing in the Spanish Grand Prix, aiming to close the gap in the Drivers’ Championship standings, where he currently trails McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
