Horner declares Hamilton relationship ‘STALE’ following split…read more

Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, has shared his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton’s future in Formula 1, ahead of the British driver’s highly anticipated move to Ferrari in 2025. Horner suggested that Hamilton’s long-standing relationship with Mercedes had become “stale,” especially after the challenges the seven-time world champion has faced in recent seasons.

Hamilton, 39, has been with Mercedes for his entire F1 career, securing a dominant era for the team with multiple championships. However, the British driver’s performance in recent years has been far from the level of success he enjoyed in the past. Mercedes struggled to make the most of the new technical regulations introduced in 2022, and Hamilton endured the longest winless streak of his career, which only ended at the 2023 British Grand Prix in Silverstone.

Despite this victory, 2024 has been a tough season for Hamilton. He has frequently voiced his frustrations with his and the team’s pace, and his performances have been far from the dominant form that made him one of the sport’s most successful drivers. His teammate, George Russell, has outperformed him in qualifying on 19 occasions this season, highlighting the gulf in form between the two. At the Qatar Grand Prix, Hamilton admitted that he no longer felt as fast as he once did, offering a downcast assessment of his abilities.

This underwhelming season has led Hamilton to announce his departure from Mercedes at the end of 2024, with a move to Ferrari in 2025. For Hamilton, this switch represents a fresh start and a chance to revive his career. Red Bull’s Horner sees this change as potentially the spark Hamilton needs to reignite his passion and competitiveness.

Horner pointed out that moving from Mercedes, where Hamilton has spent his entire career, to Ferrari—the most iconic and high-profile team in Formula 1—could offer the rejuvenation Hamilton has been seeking. He acknowledged that Hamilton’s recent performances have appeared flat, and suggested that the long-standing partnership with Mercedes might have lost some of its former energy.

Horner’s comments highlight the transformative potential of Hamilton’s upcoming move. Ferrari, with its rich history and strong presence in the sport, could provide the perfect environment for Hamilton to challenge for an eighth world title and re-energize his F1 journey.
