Jack Doohan Responds After Being Replaced by Franco Colapinto in Alpine Shake-Up

Formula 1 driver Jack Doohan has broken his silence following the announcement that he will be replaced by Franco Colapinto in Alpine’s lineup for the next five races. The 22-year-old Australian, who has endured a tough start to the 2025 season, has been relegated to the role of reserve driver as the team makes a mid-season change in hopes of better results.

Doohan, who stepped into Esteban Ocon’s seat at the start of the season, has struggled to make an impact, becoming one of only four drivers yet to score a single championship point this year. His most recent outing at the Miami Grand Prix ended in disappointment when he crashed out on the opening lap, highlighting the ongoing difficulties he’s faced throughout the campaign.

In a heartfelt statement, Doohan expressed both pride and gratitude despite the setback. “I am very proud to have achieved my lifelong ambition to be a professional Formula One driver and I will forever be grateful to the team for helping me achieve this dream,” he said.

Doohan’s demotion marks a turning point for both his career and Alpine’s season strategy. The team is placing its hopes on Colapinto, a rising talent from Argentina who previously made a strong impression while substituting at Williams in 2024. During his brief stint there, Colapinto replaced Logan Sargeant mid-season and showed promise behind the wheel, gaining valuable race experience.

Although Colapinto did not secure a full-time seat for the 2025 season, he accepted a backup driver role at Alpine during the off-season. Now, with this unexpected opportunity, he has the chance to prove his worth alongside Pierre Gasly and potentially earn a permanent place in the team’s future.

Alpine’s decision to make such a significant change mid-season underscores their urgency to climb the standings. With performance falling short of expectations and pressure mounting, the team is clearly looking for a spark to reignite their campaign.

While the move is a major setback for Doohan, it doesn’t necessarily spell the end of his Formula 1 journey. As a reserve driver, he remains involved with the team and could return if circumstances change. Nonetheless, this development represents a serious blow for the young Australian, who entered 2025 with high hopes but now finds himself fighting to reclaim his spot on the grid.

The next five races will be crucial, not only for Colapinto to showcase his potential but also for Alpine to assess their long-term driver lineup as they seek to get their season back on track.
