Jos Verstappen, father of Red Bull F1 driver Max Verstappen, has issued a warning regarding his son’s future with the team, following a challenging 2024 season. Max, who secured his fourth consecutive world championship title, faced a significant dip in performance mid-season, resulting in a ten-race winless streak. This slump allowed competitors like Lando Norris and McLaren to mount a formidable challenge, ultimately leading to McLaren clinching the Constructors’ Championship, while Red Bull finished a disappointing third, behind both McLaren and Ferrari.

Despite Verstappen’s individual success, the decline of the Red Bull RB20 has raised concerns about the team’s competitiveness going into the 2025 season. With McLaren’s driver lineup of Norris and Oscar Piastri looking increasingly strong, along with Ferrari’s acquisition of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton alongside Charles Leclerc, Red Bull’s future appears uncertain. Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull runs until 2028, but it reportedly contains exit clauses dependent on the team’s ability to provide a championship-contending car.

In a recent interview with the Münchner Merkur/tz media group, Jos Verstappen emphasized the importance of Red Bull delivering a more driver-friendly car. He noted that the second half of the 2024 season did not inspire optimism regarding the team’s trajectory. When discussing his son’s future, Jos stated, “Everything is possible.” He indicated that Max could remain with Red Bull if he believes in the team’s potential to win races. However, he also acknowledged the possibility of a change should the situation not improve.

Earlier in the year, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed that Verstappen was his top target for a driver, fueling speculation about a potential move to Mercedes for the Dutch star.
