Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri handed Significant Boost ahead of Miami Fight
Several F1 Teams, Including Leaders McLaren, Upgrade Power Units for Miami Grand Prix
A significant number of Formula 1 teams have introduced fresh power unit components ahead of this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, potentially influencing the outcome of the sixth race of the season.
Championship leaders McLaren are among those making changes. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been equipped with new internal combustion engines (ICE), turbochargers (TC), motor generator units-heat (MGU-H), and motor generator units-kinetic (MGU-K). McLaren currently holds a commanding 77-point lead over Mercedes in the constructors’ standings as the F1 circus arrives in Miami.
Mercedes has mirrored McLaren’s strategy, providing drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli with the same set of new engine components (ICE, TC, MGU-H, MGU-K).
Further down the grid, Aston Martin and Williams have also fitted new ICEs, TCs, MGU-Hs, and MGU-Ks to both their cars. Haas has implemented the same changes, but only for driver Esteban Ocon.
Stake F1 Team, currently at the bottom of the constructors’ table, has also opted for fresh power units for both its drivers.
Crucially, all these component changes fall within the technical regulations governing power unit usage. Therefore, none of the drivers receiving the new parts will incur grid penalties for the Miami Grand Prix.
The widespread introduction of new power units, particularly among the leading teams, raises the question of whether this strategic move could play a decisive role in the fight for victory and points this weekend on the streets of Miami. Fresher components can often offer peak performance and improved reliability, factors that could be critical in the demanding conditions of the race.
