Lando Norris Remains Confident Despite Recent Struggles “I Still Feel Like I’m the Best”

Despite a tough couple of weekends, Lando Norris insists his confidence is unshaken, stating he still feels like “the best at the minute” following a slip in the 2025 F1 championship standings. The McLaren driver lost the top spot after finishing fourth at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, a result hindered by a crash during Q3 qualifying.

“I’m not surprised, given the mistakes I’ve made on recent Saturdays,” Norris said. “But I’m happy with how my Sundays have gone—the race pace has been strong every time.”

Norris had a rough outing in Bahrain too, qualifying only sixth after a messy session. Though he managed to finish third in the race, a five-second penalty for an incorrect grid position and a lackluster on-track battle with Charles Leclerc highlighted areas for improvement.

Still, the Brit remains focused on his potential. “I believe the speed is there, and right now I feel like I’m the best,” he said. “But I’m making things harder for myself with poor qualifying performances. If I can sort out my Saturdays, I know I can bounce back.”

Strong Teamwork at McLaren

Amid Norris’ personal challenges, McLaren continues to show strong internal teamwork. Team Principal Andrea Stella highlighted a moment of collaboration during the Saudi Arabian GP, when Norris’ engineer, Will Joseph, offered strategic advice to teammate Oscar Piastri’s engineer based on Norris’ earlier overtaking attempts on Lewis Hamilton.

“I was impressed I didn’t need to say anything. It was a great example of our team spirit,” Stella said.

The garage crew also received high praise for quickly rebuilding Norris’ car after his qualifying crash, swapping nearly every component apart from the chassis and engine.

“It’s always a bit nerve-wracking when you replace that many parts,” Stella admitted, “but they gave Lando a car capable of scoring valuable points.”

With the season still wide open, Norris’ belief in himself and McLaren’s strong unity could be key in the championship battle ahead.
