Lando Norris Flips Off Verstappen, Hamilton Wants a Tea Break – 5 Moments You Might Have Missed from the Miami Grand Prix
The 2025 Miami Grand Prix delivered a wild and unpredictable weekend of Formula 1 action. The sprint format brought extra drama, with unpredictable track conditions adding to the chaos. But amidst all the wheel-to-wheel battles and intense strategies, some offbeat and surprising moments might have slipped under the radar.
1. Lando Norris Loses Patience with Max Verstappen
Sunday’s main race kicked off with a fiery clash between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. In the first corner, Norris was forced off the track, slipping down to sixth while Verstappen held onto the lead. As the race progressed, Norris clawed his way back through the field and found himself once again on Verstappen’s tail. However, Verstappen put up a strong defense, frustrating the McLaren driver. Cameras captured Norris making a rude gesture — appearing to flip the middle finger at the Red Bull driver in the heat of the battle. Norris eventually got past and secured a second-place finish, but his emotions clearly got the better of him during their intense exchange.
2. Hamilton’s Sharp Sarcasm Over Team Orders
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton had an up-and-down weekend. After claiming third in the sprint, he found himself stuck in eighth during the main race. He had strong pace and at one point set the fastest lap on medium tyres. Wanting a chance to fight the drivers ahead, Hamilton requested to be let through past team-mate Charles Leclerc to challenge Kimi Antonelli. The team hesitated for several laps before finally instructing the swap. By then, the opportunity had largely passed. Frustrated, Hamilton sarcastically quipped to his engineer, “Have a tea break while you’re at it!” Later in the race, when asked to give the place back to Leclerc, he retorted, “Shall I let Sainz through as well?” The tension in Mercedes’ garage was evident.
3. LEGO Racing on the Grid
In a light-hearted moment before the main race, all 20 F1 drivers took part in a special LEGO-themed race. Each driver got into miniature cars designed in their team colors, with the LEGO vehicles crawling around the Miami International Autodrome at around 20 mph. There was even a minor collision between Lando Norris, in a LEGO McLaren, and Pierre Gasly in a LEGO Alpine — thankfully, no penalties were issued!
4. Oscar Piastri Does the Griddy (Badly)
Oscar Piastri had plenty of reasons to celebrate after claiming his fourth win of the season and extending his lead over Norris to 16 points in the drivers’ standings. But his attempt at celebrating with the viral “Griddy” dance didn’t exactly win over fans. While his performance on track was clinical, his dance moves left much to be desired — earning some laughs from his McLaren crew and viewers alike.
5. Brundle’s Celebrity Blunders
Martin Brundle’s signature pre-race grid walk featured its usual mix of awkward encounters. At one point, he tried (and failed) to get singer LISA’s attention — even enlisting F1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart to help. Later, Brundle congratulated boxer Conor Benn on a win that actually belonged to his opponent, Chris Eubank Jr. It was a weekend of hits and misses, both on and off the track.
