ABU DHABI: Charles Leclerc has expressed his excitement and anticipation over Lewis Hamilton’s impending arrival at Ferrari, calling the prospect “crazy.” The seven-time world champion is set to end his remarkable 12-year career with Mercedes after this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and will join Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Speaking at the Yas Marina Circuit on Thursday, Leclerc acknowledged the magnitude of having Hamilton as a teammate. “With Lewis, it’s going to be crazy because he’s such a talented driver,” Leclerc said in an interview with AFP. “He’s the most successful driver in Formula One history, so it’ll be a huge challenge to compete with him in the same car. I’m looking forward to learning from him, but I’m also eager to prove my capabilities alongside him.”

Hamilton’s arrival marks a major shakeup for Ferrari, as the team bids farewell to Carlos Sainz after three seasons. Sainz, who has contributed two victories to Ferrari’s tally this year, will make way for Hamilton as the team aims to reclaim dominance in Formula 1.

This weekend’s race in Abu Dhabi will be pivotal for Ferrari. With three wins from Leclerc and two from Sainz this season, the Italian team holds an outside chance of clinching their first Constructors’ Championship title since 2008. Ferrari is currently second in the standings, trailing McLaren by 21 points heading into the final race of the season.

Leclerc remains optimistic but realistic about Ferrari’s chances. “It’s still possible,” he said. “But we’re not going to fool ourselves. To win, we’ll need to perform exceptionally well, and McLaren will have to face some difficulties during the race.”

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is one of the most significant driver transfers in recent Formula 1 history. It brings together one of the sport’s most decorated drivers and its most iconic team, a combination that has fans and pundits eager to see what they can achieve together.

For Leclerc, sharing the garage with Hamilton represents both an opportunity and a challenge. The young Monegasque has consistently impressed with his performances, and he is determined to rise to the occasion as Ferrari looks to end a 16-year title drought. The 2025 season promises to be a thrilling chapter in the storied history of Ferrari and Formula 1.
