Lewis Hamilton Opens Up on Pain After Italian GP as Ferrari Unveil New Signing

Ferrari have shared a candid moment featuring seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, who admitted he raced through discomfort during last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The Briton, competing in front of Ferrari’s passionate tifosi for the first time as their driver, revealed that he was struggling physically while pushing to deliver a strong performance.

Hamilton arrived in Milan ahead of the race weekend, greeting thousands of excited fans in a special Ferrari event before heading to Monza for the 16th round of the 2025 season. The build-up carried extra weight, as the 40-year-old is still working to establish himself within the legendary team while under immense public scrutiny. Adding to the challenge was a five-place grid penalty he carried over from Zandvoort.

Although Hamilton managed to qualify in fifth position during Saturday’s session, the penalty demoted him to P10 on the starting grid. Undeterred, the Brit fought his way up the order on Sunday, gaining four places to finish sixth at the chequered flag. While the result looked solid on paper, Hamilton later confessed that his drive was far from comfortable.

In a behind-the-scenes clip released by Ferrari on social media, Hamilton explained that he endured significant strain during the 53-lap contest. Gesturing towards the right side of his lower body, he revealed, “I couldn’t push the pedal any further. Maximum! I have pain here.” The admission highlighted just how much physical effort the veteran had to exert while trying to claw back positions.

Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur also weighed in on Hamilton’s adjustment period, noting that the Briton brings a very different style compared to Carlos Sainz, his predecessor. While Sainz was known for consistency and a calm approach, Hamilton’s aggressive determination and willingness to push the car to its limits have been on display in recent races.

The Italian GP result may not have delivered the podium many fans had hoped for, but Hamilton’s performance underlined his resilience and hunger to prove himself at Ferrari. Racing through pain and overcoming a grid penalty, he demonstrated flashes of the skill that has earned him seven world titles.

Meanwhile, Ferrari added another headline to the week by confirming a new signing to strengthen their team setup. While details of the recruit were not the centerpiece of the weekend’s story, the announcement further signaled Ferrari’s determination to build a competitive structure around Hamilton and Charles Leclerc as they aim to return to championship-winning ways.
