Fred Vasseur delivers Day 1 message to Ferrari crew as Lewis Hamilton arrives

Fred Vasseur, Ferrari’s team principal, has delivered a clear message to his crew on the first day of Lewis Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari: enjoy the excitement for one day, then it’s time to focus. January 1 marked the beginning of a new era for both Ferrari and the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, as Hamilton officially joined the team from Mercedes. This move has been eagerly anticipated, with fans and the Formula 1 community buzzing about the union of one of the sport’s most successful drivers with the iconic Ferrari team.

Vasseur acknowledged the enthusiasm surrounding Hamilton’s arrival but emphasized the importance of moving beyond the excitement quickly. Speaking to Sky F1, he said, “Everybody all over the world is excited, and for sure, the mechanics are also excited. It’s always exciting to have someone who is a seven-times World Champion in the car.” However, he added, “But I think after day one, we’ll have to turn this page and be focused on the job.”

The Ferrari team has every reason to feel energized by Hamilton’s presence. The British driver has been a dominant force in Formula 1 for over a decade, and his addition to Ferrari is expected to bring fresh energy to the team as they aim for a return to championship glory. Hamilton’s arrival marks the realization of a long-held dream for him. For years, he has expressed admiration for Ferrari, and now he finally gets the chance to drive for the Scuderia.

Despite the emotional significance of joining Ferrari, Vasseur made it clear that the team needs to temper their enthusiasm and focus on the task ahead. This applies not only to the Ferrari workforce but also to Hamilton himself. Vasseur joked, “It will be emotional, but it has to be emotional for one lap! And then, to be focused.” This light-hearted remark underscores the balance between passion and professionalism that Ferrari will need to strike as they prepare for the 2025 season.

Before the team launches their new F1 2025 chassis on February 19, Hamilton is expected to receive some valuable testing time in one of Ferrari’s older models as part of their Testing of Previous Car (TPC) program. This will provide him with an opportunity to familiarize himself with Ferrari’s machinery and begin building a working relationship with his new team.

When asked about the emotions Hamilton might feel when he drives a Ferrari Formula 1 car for the first time, Vasseur acknowledged the significance of the moment. “It’s true that it’s quite emotional,” he said. “I think he has had this moment in his mind for probably 20 years.” However, Vasseur expressed confidence that Hamilton will handle the situation well. He added, “What is a bit different is the passion or the emotion around the team, but I think Lewis is well-prepared to manage this.”

Hamilton will be partnering with Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s lead driver, for the 2025 season. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz, who has been with Ferrari since 2021, has moved to Williams on a multi-year deal. The dynamic between Hamilton and Leclerc will be a critical factor in Ferrari’s quest for success in 2025, as both drivers are expected to push each other to new heights.

As Hamilton begins this new chapter of his career, Ferrari fans and the broader Formula 1 community are eager to see how the partnership unfolds. The combination of Hamilton’s experience and Leclerc’s raw talent offers a tantalizing prospect for the season ahead. While the excitement is undeniable, Vasseur’s message is clear: after the initial thrill, it’s time to buckle down and get to work. Ferrari has high hopes for 2025, and with Hamilton now in the fold, they will be looking to turn those hopes into reality on the track.
