Lewis Hamilton Backed to Handle Ferrari Pressure by…read more

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has been tipped to handle the immense pressure that comes with racing for Ferrari. Former F1 driver and respected pundit Martin Brundle believes Hamilton’s vast experience will help him navigate the challenges of his first season with the Italian team.

After 12 years with Mercedes, Hamilton made the high-profile switch to Ferrari for the 2025 season. His move has been one of the most talked-about topics in the sport, as Ferrari carries an intense level of scrutiny, particularly from the passionate Italian media and fanbase. The Maranello-based squad has a storied history in F1, and expectations are always sky-high for its drivers.

Despite the added attention, Brundle has no doubt that Hamilton will not be fazed by the spotlight. Speaking to Sky Sports News, Brundle stated:

> “I don’t think Lewis will feel any pressure. He’s been there, seen it, done it, and won it. He’s won seven championships, he will not succumb to that.”

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari sees him partner Charles Leclerc, who has been with the team since 2019. The Monegasque driver has deep ties with Ferrari, making him well-versed in how the team operates. Brundle acknowledged that this could be an advantage for Leclerc as Hamilton adjusts to his new surroundings.

Adapting to a New Team

Transitioning to Ferrari presents a fresh challenge for Hamilton, who spent over a decade building a dominant era with Mercedes. Now, he must familiarize himself with a different way of working, a new car philosophy, and a fresh team environment. Brundle noted that while Leclerc already knows every detail about Ferrari’s setup, Hamilton is still in the process of settling in.

> “Leclerc has been there six or seven years, he knows where all the green buttons are,” Brundle explained.

“He knows how to make things happen at Ferrari, Lewis is new in.”

However, Hamilton is not approaching this challenge unprepared. Recognizing the complexity of joining a new team, he has made strategic moves to ensure he has a strong support system around him.

Brundle pointed out that Hamilton has reunited with key personnel from his past, including his longtime physio and confidante Angela Cullen. Cullen, who played a crucial role in Hamilton’s success at Mercedes, is back in his corner. Additionally, Mark Hines, who has been involved with Hamilton’s preparation in the past, is also working with him again.

> “He’s taken along with him Angela [Cullen] again now, his physio. Mark Hines is back with him,” Brundle added.

Hamilton is also working with a new race engineer at Ferrari, which is another adjustment he will have to make. For years, he had a strong relationship with Peter Bonnington at Mercedes, but now he must build a similar rapport with his new team.

> “Lewis has put as much around him as he can, knowing he’s going into a completely different culture of team,” Brundle said.

“He’s got to find his way. He has a new engineer as well, and that’s a lot to take on board, especially when your team-mate in Charles Leclerc is so fast and so well-embedded in the team.”

A High-Stakes Season Ahead

While Hamilton’s experience is undeniable, his first season with Ferrari will be closely watched by fans and analysts. The team has not won a drivers’ championship since 2007, and the pressure to end that drought is immense. His ability to adapt quickly will be crucial in Ferrari’s fight for success in 2025.

With pre-season testing in Bahrain completed, Hamilton now looks ahead to the opening races, where he will have the opportunity to prove that he can thrive in Ferrari’s high-pressure environment. While challenges lie ahead, Brundle’s confidence in the British driver suggests that he has the tools to make his Ferrari stint a successful one.
