Lewis Hamilton Face Disqualification at Chinese Grand Prix af…read more

The disqualification of Lewis Hamilton at the Chinese Grand Prix during his first season with Scuderia Ferrari became one of the most significant moments in the early phase of his career with the legendary Formula 1 team. What initially appeared to be a disappointing technical setback later proved to be a key turning point for both the seven-time world champion and Ferrari as they attempted to build a competitive partnership.

Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team for Ferrari had already stunned the motorsport world when it was announced in 2024. After spending 12 incredibly successful seasons with Mercedes, Hamilton had established himself as one of the most dominant drivers in the history of Formula One. His time with the Silver Arrows produced multiple world titles and countless victories, making the partnership one of the most successful the sport has ever seen.

The move to Ferrari also carried personal meaning for Hamilton. For years he had spoken about his childhood dream of racing for the iconic Italian team. When the deal was finally confirmed, excitement among Ferrari’s passionate supporters—the tifosi—reached extraordinary levels as fans hoped the champion could lead the team back to consistent success.

However, Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari in 2025 did not begin the way many expected. In his debut race for the team, he could only manage a 10th-place finish, raising early doubts about whether Ferrari had the pace required to compete at the front.

There was a brief moment of optimism during the following race weekend in Shanghai. Hamilton delivered an impressive performance to win the sprint race, giving fans a glimpse of what the partnership might achieve. Unfortunately, the positive momentum did not last long.

After the main Grand Prix, both Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc were disqualified following post-race inspections. Officials discovered that the skid blocks beneath both Ferrari cars had worn below the minimum legal thickness of 9mm, meaning the cars failed to meet technical regulations. The decision resulted in both drivers being removed from the race results.

The double disqualification was a major setback for Ferrari and a particularly difficult moment in Hamilton’s first year with the team. At times during the challenging 2025 season, the veteran driver even suggested that Ferrari might consider replacing him if he failed to deliver the results expected of him.

Now, however, the focus has shifted to the future. Heading into the 2026 season, Hamilton appears determined to prove that last year’s struggles were only temporary. Ferrari have worked extensively to improve their car, hoping to mount a stronger challenge against rivals like Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team and drivers such as George Russell.

For Hamilton and Ferrari, the lessons from that dramatic weekend in Shanghai may ultimately serve as the foundation for a stronger and more competitive partnership in the seasons ahead. 🏁
