Lewis Hamilton Defends Ferrari Move Amid Slow Start to 2025 Season

Lewis Hamilton has responded firmly to critics who have questioned his performance since joining Ferrari, defending both his decision and his early results despite a tough start to the 2025 Formula 1 season.

The seven-time world champion has yet to step onto the podium in a full Grand Prix since making the high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari. His best finish so far came at the recent Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, where he managed to secure a fourth-place result — his strongest showing to date in the iconic red car of Scuderia Ferrari.

While his sprint race performances have offered flashes of hope — with a victory in China and a third-place finish in Miami — Hamilton’s overall campaign has fallen short of expectations so far, especially given the fanfare surrounding his move to Maranello. Despite the excitement and high hopes, the results haven’t matched the hype in these early races.

Hamilton, however, has not shied away from addressing the scrutiny head-on. Speaking candidly to the media at Imola, the British driver expressed frustration over the constant speculation surrounding his performances and future at Ferrari.

“There’s so many rumours, there’s so many people making assumptions, comments, judgements,” Hamilton said. “You know, 99 per cent of them don’t actually know what’s really going on. And probably 100 per cent of them don’t know what I’ve been through to get where I am today.”

His words reflect the emotional toll of adjusting to a new environment and the pressure that comes with representing one of the most prestigious teams in Formula 1 history. Many observers had expected Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari to quickly turn the tide for the team, but it has become clear that building a winning formula takes time — even for a driver of his calibre.

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari was one of the most talked-about stories in motorsport, and expectations were naturally sky-high. However, Ferrari’s struggles with car performance, strategy execution, and internal team cohesion have continued into this season, making it harder for the British star to deliver instant success.

Despite the challenges, Hamilton has remained focused and committed to the project. His win in the Chinese sprint race was a reminder of his enduring talent, though it was quickly overshadowed by his disqualification from the main Grand Prix the following day — another setback in a season full of mixed fortunes.

As the season continues, Hamilton’s comments suggest he is determined to block out the noise and focus on the long-term goal of restoring Ferrari to championship contention. He remains optimistic that the team can make progress and that he can silence the critics through results on track.

For now, the journey is proving more difficult than many anticipated, but Hamilton is clearly not ready to give up on his Scuderia dream.
