Lewis Hamilton Joins Prime Minister Keir Starmer as Mission 44 Secures Government Commitment to Inclusive Education

Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer as part of a key event involving his Mission 44 foundation. The meeting marked a major step forward in education reform, with the UK government pledging to build a more inclusive and equitable school system with Mission 44 playing a central role.

Held ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix, the gathering brought together Hamilton, young people supported by his foundation, and government officials. Together, they discussed strategies for tackling inequality in education. Following the meeting, the government committed to working with Mission 44 and the Department for Education to shape more inclusive policies.

Hamilton launched Mission 44 in 2021, investing £20 million of his own funds to help improve opportunities for underrepresented youth in the UK. Recently, the foundation, with Hamilton’s backing, issued a joint call for reforms across four key areas:

  1. A National Framework for Inclusion – To provide schools with clear guidelines on creating inclusive learning environments.
  2. An Annual National Student Experience Survey – To capture and use students’ feedback in shaping school and government decisions.
  3. Targeted Funding for a Diverse Teaching Workforce – To build a more inclusive education sector that better reflects the communities it serves.
  4. Mentorship for At-Risk Students – To offer personal guidance and support for students at risk of exclusion.

A video posted by Starmer on X (formerly Twitter) shows Hamilton speaking passionately about the initiative:

“This is just the start. I’m really encouraged and grateful that the government is committed to real change,” Hamilton said.
“But now it’s time to turn words into action. That’s why I started Mission 44 because I came from a working-class background and went through a system that didn’t support me. I was expelled, and I see that still happening today.”

Hamilton also shared his nervousness before a Zoom call with Starmer, expressing sincere appreciation for the Prime Minister’s time and engagement.

“There’s a lot to be done, but today marks the beginning of that journey.”

This collaboration between Hamilton’s foundation and the UK government could pave the way for long-term improvements in the education system, putting the voices and needs of young people at the center of policy-making.
