Lewis Hamilton Urged to Apologize to Ferrari Over Miami GP Radio Outburst

Lewis Hamilton is facing criticism following a tense radio exchange with Ferrari engineers during the 2025 Miami Grand Prix, with former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher calling on the British star to issue a public apology.

The incident unfolded during a critical phase of the race when Hamilton, running on medium tyres, requested to be allowed past teammate Charles Leclerc, citing a pace advantage. Ferrari hesitated, taking four laps to act on the request. By then, Hamilton’s tyre performance had dropped off, and he was unable to close the gap to **Kimi Antonelli** for P6.

As a result, Ferrari reversed the position swap, reinstating Leclerc ahead of Hamilton. The decision frustrated Hamilton, who responded over the team radio with sarcastic remarks including, “Have a cup of tea” and “Not good teamwork,” comments that many saw as a public slight against his new team.

Hamilton later defended his remarks, saying he meant no disrespect and felt he had shown restraint under the circumstances. However, Schumacher, speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, believes the situation was mishandled.

“Instead of pretending it wasn’t sarcastic, he should just say sorry,” Schumacher said. “At his age and with his experience, he should’ve handled it more wisely. That would have been the smarter approach.”

Schumacher also warned that the incident could strain Hamilton’s fledgling relationship with Ferrari.

“Things like this stick. It’s a stain on the relationship, and he needs to realize that,” he added.

Hamilton, who joined Ferrari this season after more than a decade with Mercedes, admitted that while he could have said worse in the moment, he chose to keep things relatively respectful.

The episode raises fresh questions about internal dynamics at Ferrari and whether the team can maintain unity as the season progresses.
