Lewis Hamilton Crash Triggers Late Red Flag in Monaco Grand Prix Practice
Lewis Hamilton crashed out during Free Practice 1 (FP1) at the Monaco Grand Prix, bringing an early end to the session after hitting the barriers at turn three. The seven-time world champion lost control of his Ferrari while heading uphill through one of the most challenging sections of the street circuit, suffering a sudden oversteer that sent him into the wall and caused significant damage to the right side of his SF-25.
The incident prompted a red flag just minutes before the session was due to end, cutting short final preparations ahead of qualifying.
Hamilton’s mistake is a rare sight, particularly in a practice session, and highlights how demanding the Monaco circuit can be — even for the most experienced drivers. Ferrari’s mechanics now face a tight deadline to repair the car and have it ready in time for Saturday’s all-important qualifying.
Both Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc had shown strong pace throughout the practice sessions, and Ferrari were hopeful of challenging for pole position. With overtaking notoriously difficult on the Monaco streets, qualifying is more crucial here than at most other tracks.
The crash puts Hamilton’s qualifying hopes in jeopardy, especially given that he has only outqualified his teammate once in the last 13 races. If repairs aren’t completed swiftly, it could compromise his entire race weekend.
As McLaren and Red Bull struggle to keep pace, Hamilton’s crash adds another layer of drama to an already unpredictable Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
