Lewis Hamilton’s new F1 car passes SIGNIFICANT milestone
Lewis Hamilton’s move to Scuderia Ferrari has reached a significant milestone as the team’s new Formula 1 car, codenamed Project 677, has successfully passed the mandatory FIA crash tests.
This crucial step ensures the car meets safety standards, marking an essential phase in its development ahead of the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The seven-time world champion will join Ferrari as a teammate to Charles Leclerc.
The new car, referred to as the 677, is set to debut on the Fiorano circuit on February 19, a day after Ferrari unveils its F1-75 in London.
The FIA crash tests are a critical requirement for all Formula 1 teams, ensuring the structural integrity of the chassis and its ability to protect the driver during a collision.
The stringent tests include static and dynamic simulations designed to assess the car’s durability under various forces, such as frontal, lateral, and vertical impacts, as well as fuel tank integrity and the robustness of the halo device.
Ferrari’s successful completion of these tests highlights the progress of their 2025 challenger, especially in light of past failures by other teams, such as McLaren’s struggles with the MP4-18.
These tests are mandatory before a car is approved for racing.
Hamilton’s first experience driving a Ferrari Formula 1 car remains uncertain but is expected to happen early in 2025.
He is likely to participate in a Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) session at Fiorano in January or February, where he can adapt to Ferrari’s 2023 car before the official pre-season testing begins.
This early test will give Hamilton an opportunity to familiarize himself with Ferrari’s systems, offering valuable preparation for the season ahead.
The collaboration between Hamilton and Ferrari marks one of the most anticipated partnerships in recent Formula 1 history.
With the car’s successful completion of the FIA’s safety requirements, Ferrari is now one step closer to launching a competitive campaign for the upcoming season.
