Max Verstappen Announces Red Bull Exit, Russell Inks Fresh Mercedes Dea

In a major development ahead of the British Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has officially confirmed that he will leave Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2025 Formula 1 season, bringing an end to one of the most successful partnerships in recent F1 history.

The Dutch driver, who has claimed multiple world titles with the Milton Keynes-based team, made the announcement following months of uncertainty and internal speculation. Although Verstappen did not confirm his next team, widespread reports point toward a sensational move to Mercedes, as part of a major shake-up before the 2026 rule changes.

His decision is said to have been influenced by ongoing unrest behind the scenes at Red Bull and continued dissatisfaction with the performance of this season’s RB21 car, which has fallen short of expectations in key races.

At the same time, Mercedes has reaffirmed its faith in George Russell, handing the British driver a new contract that keeps him with the team until the end of 2027. The timing of the announcement has added fuel to rumours that Russell and Verstappen could soon become teammates.

Russell, who is set to race in front of his home crowd at Silverstone, expressed his excitement: “I’m thrilled to be staying with Mercedes. It’s a team with a vision, and I’m proud to be part of what’s coming next.”

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff praised Russell’s growth and consistency, describing him as “a key part of the team’s long-term future.”

With Verstappen stepping away from Red Bull and potentially heading to join forces with Russell, fans and analysts are already anticipating fireworks in 2026, especially with new technical regulations coming into play. This could mark the beginning of a thrilling new era in Formula 1, both on and off the track.

As the dust settles on this bombshell, the spotlight now turns to Red Bull, who must find a replacement for their star driver—and fast. The driver market is officially in overdrive.
